What you'll do

We are seeking a highly capable Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our growing Water & Maritime team. You will play a key role in the delivery of civil, coastal and maritime projects across Australia and the Pacific. This is a technical and project-leading role with hands-on responsibility, client interaction and mentoring of junior staff. Your responsibilities will include: Oversee and deliver studies, engineering designs, modelling, analyses, calculations, drawings and engineering reports across civil, coastal and maritime projects for geotechnical discipline. Identify issues, risks and opportunities, providing innovative and practical geotechnical solutions. Plan and undertake geotechnical site investigations including borehole logging, test pits, ground characterisation and assessment of reactive/collapsing soils. Prepare factual and interpretation reports. Lead geotechnical and foundation design for port and harbour infrastructure, including: quay walls, wharves, jetties, dolphins, marine piling, abutments, pavements, retaining walls, seawalls, revetments and navigation aids. Conduct site inspections, laboratory testing coordination and preparation of inspection reports. Supervise, mentor and guide junior engineers and others. Support business development: meeting clients, preparing capability statements, contributing to marketing materials and proposals. Develop and maintain strong client relationships across Australia, with regular face-to-face engagement.

What you'll bring

Technical & Professional Competencies You bring strong practical geotechnical engineering skills combined with the ability to work independently and lead project teams. You consistently deliver high‑quality, accurate and timely technical work, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and collaborate confidently across internal and external interfaces. Experience in planning and delivering geotechnical investigations, supporting robust and well‑informed design solutions; Proven proficiency with geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, SlopeW and Wallap, enabling accurate analysis and modelling; Strong mentoring, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including excellent report writing, meeting facilitation and presentation capabilities; Organised, self‑managed and collaborative working style, with the ability to manage internal and external interfaces effectively; Strong proposal, planning and small‑to‑medium project delivery experience, ensuring consistent and reliable outcomes. Qualifications & Experience You bring a solid academic background and extensive professional experience that enable you to contribute effectively to complex geotechnical projects from investigation through to delivery. Civil Engineering degree with a specialisation in Geotechnical Engineering; 7–10+ years’ geotechnical engineering experience, including a background in coastal and maritime engineering projects; Chartered with Engineers Australia; RPEQ, Australian project experience and industry involvement (e.g. PIANC, Engineers Australia) are desirable; Willingness to travel locally, interstate and internationally when required.
