Research Infrastructure Engineer

Research Infrastructure Engineer Support cutting-edge AI and computer science research at TU Delft by building, maintaining, and improving the specialised infrastructure researchers rely on every day. In this hands-on role, you will work at the intersection of research labs management, high-performance computing, and emerging AI technologies, helping researchers and students turn ambitious ideas into reality.

As a Research Infrastructure Engineer, you will join the Research Engineering and Infrastructure Team (REIT) within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS). REIT supports researchers and students with expertise in software engineering, data science, high-performance computing, and research infrastructure. You will work closely with the Intelligent Systems (INSY) department and collaborate with researchers, research engineers, HPC specialists, data engineers, and central ICT services. A key part of your role is ensuring the reliability and availability of specialised research infrastructure that falls outside the scope of central ICT services. You will manage Linux-based servers, maintain access and security, perform troubleshooting, recover data when needed, and provide rapid support during demonstrations, teaching activities, and examinations. You will also support, maintain and manage research facilities such as InsyghtLab . This includes managing hardware and software environments, supporting audio-visual and sensing equipment, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, and advising researchers on hardware procurement and infrastructure solutions. In addition, you will deploy and manage project-specific servers, cloud virtual machines, and AI-related infrastructure to support the growing demand for advanced computing in research and education. As a trusted technical partner, you will act as a liaison between researchers and central ICT services. You will coordinate infrastructure requests, maintain technical documentation, manage inventories of hardware and software assets, and contribute to the continuous improvement of research support services across the faculty. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of technologies, from Linux systems administration and networking to GPU infrastructure, research computing, and AI platforms. You will have ample opportunities to develop your expertise while contributing directly to internationally recognised research and education. Requirements You have extensive experience with Linux system administration in complex technical environments. You have solid knowledge of networking, firewalls, system security, and access management. You can develop automation scripts using Bash, PowerShell, Python, or similar technologies. You have experience with database administration, backup strategies, and data recovery processes. You can troubleshoot complex technical issues effectively and perform well under time pressure. You are willing to learn, maintain, and support a variety of audio-visual and research laboratory technologies. You have strong communication and coordination skills and work effectively with technical and non-technical users. You hold an MSc degree in a relevant field or demonstrate equivalent professional experience

Duration of contract is 1 year. Temporary with prospect of permanent A job of 36-40 hours per week. A salary based on Scale 10 of the CAO for Dutch Universities with a salary between €3546 - €5538 gross per month based on a fulltime contract (38 hours), plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%.
