We are looking for a Middle Non-Financial Risk Officer to join our BUX team based in Amsterdam . We’re a small, agile team that moves fast, takes ownership, and enjoys celebrating successes together. That is where you come in. As our Risk Officer, you keep BUX in control of the risks that come with running a fast-growing fintech. You test whether our controls actually work, keep our local policies sharp and up to date, and bring structure to our SIRA and change risk assessments. You translate “what could go wrong” into clear, practical actions the business can act on, without slowing the business down. You will report directly to the Head of Risk . We are looking for a professional with an affinity for investing products, who makes risk transparent, open for discussion and manageable and who thrives in a fast-paced fintech environment undergoing significant growth.
What you'll do
You join BUX’s second-line risk management team and own the risk agenda day-to-day. You work closely with teams across CDD team, Product, Customer support, Legal and Compliance. Your focus areas are: Control testing : design and run the operational risk control testing cycle. This includes assessing whether key controls are correctly designed and operating effectively, documenting your findings, and following up on remediation with control owners. Policy reviews and amendments : carry out periodic reviews of BUX’s local standards, and draft clear, proportionate amendments so they stay aligned with regulation, ABN AMRO policies and how BUX actually works. SIRA : coordinate and maintain the SIRA. This includes facilitating risk identification workshops, challenging the inherent and residual risk scoring, and keeping the analysis current as products and processes evolve. Change risk assessments : lead the CRA and assess the operational risk impact of new products, processes, vendors and projects, and make sure risks are identified, mitigated and signed off before changes go live. Reporting : draft the monthly and quarterly reporting we need to provide to ABN AMRO. You will also: Perform risk analyses, deep dives and event analyses to surface vulnerabilities and improvement opportunities. Advise stakeholders on risk mitigation, control design and effective implementation. Contribute to the continuous improvement and automation of BUX’s risk and control cycle. Help strengthen risk awareness and ownership across the company. Reporting on incidents. Involvement in innovative projects for BUX growth. Engaging with internal and external stakeholders (like ABN AMRO) on risk management topics. What you need to succeed We are looking for someone with strong professional judgment, independence, and integrity. What you'll bring
Around 2 to 3 years of experience in risk management, risk and control or a comparable first or second line role. Hands-on experience with control testing, policy reviews, risk assessments (such as SIRA) and/or change risk assessments. Familiarity with risk taxonomies, risk and control frameworks and governance processes. Solid understanding of the regulatory environment for a financial institution (e.g. AFM/DNB expectations, MiFID II, Wft); experience in financial services, fintech or banking is a strong plus. A data-driven, pragmatic mindset and genuine affinity with improving processes and controls. Ideally, with comfort using data, AI and automation to work smarter.
