About the role
Programme Manager 8556 IKEA Foundation Leiden, the Netherlands Role coordinated by: Karina Rinaldi-Doligez e: [email protected] Sector Social Impact Salary & Benefits Competitve Expiry 24/08/2026 We fight global warming with and for the many people. The IKEA Foundation is an independent philanthropy that fights global warming with and for the many people. Founded by Swedish entrepreneur Ingvar Kamprad, we are proud to share the heritage and values of the business he started – IKEA. Though we operate independently from IKEA, we hold a common vision: to create a better everyday life for the many people. To pursue this vision, we support partners that are working to bring long-term changes to high-emitting systems with a direct impact on people’s lives: Energy, Land, Food and Forests, and Buildings and Transport. We are committed to reducing and avoiding greenhouse gas emissions through people-centred solutions. This support is made possible by financial resources generated over decades of IKEA business success. To date, we have provided nearly €3 billion in funding to our partners. Togetherness is our core value and lies at the heart of our work. We recognise that solving the challenges of this century will require unprecedented levels of collaboration. No single organisation or group of people will be able meet them alone. The IKEA Foundation is seeking an experienced, collaborative and purpose-driven Programme Manager to join its Programmes team. The Programme Manager will play a key role in designing and delivering grant-making strategies that advance the Foundation's mission to create lasting, systems-level change. Working across a global portfolio, they will lead the development and stewardship of high-quality grants, build trusted partnerships, and ensure that grant-making remains adaptive, locally led, and aligned with the Foundation's strategic priorities. Reporting to the Director of Global Platforms, the Programme Manager will lead the strategy and stewardship of internal grant-making processes, ensuring grants are well designed, responsibly managed and aligned with programme strategy. The successful candidate will oversee the full grant lifecycle, from sourcing and assessing new partners to monitoring implementation, managing risks, embedding learning, and ensuring effective collaboration across internal teams. They will act in a grant advisory role on selected grants led by other Programmes, providing independent judgment and systems perspectives to strengthen grant design, monitoring, learning and decision-making. They will play an important role in sourcing, screening and recommending potential partners for grant-making, serving as a primary relationship manager and representative for the Foundation, stewarding trust-based relationships, through open communication and mutual learning. In the first year, the Programme Manager will focus on developing a strong pipeline of grants aligned to a new global strategy and supporting their successful implementation. This role requires experience in grant-making, programme design and delivery, or other partnership-based work in relevant contexts. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience managing complex programmes or partnerships, including goal setting and work plan development, with the ability to apply learning and evidence to strengthen decision-making. Experience working on climate-related issues, alongside an understanding of social justice and equity, would be highly valued, as would lived or professional experience across the Global South. Above all, the successful candidate will be a collaborative and thoughtful relationship builder who is motivated by creating long-term impact through partnerships, learning, and adaptive grant-making. The position is full-time (38 hours) and based at the IKEA Foundation’s office in Leiden, the Netherlands, with regular international travel required. Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential. This is a unique opportunity to join a passionate, international team committed to creating meaningful change.
